The interesting thing about the Thonet turned wood chairs is that most of the structural integrity of the chairs is visible. The curves in the wood distribute the load and are held together simply by tacks or screws. The pieces are held together so tightly that the individual parts have little or no individual movement, this in turn allows the structure as a whole to not be compromised and has allowed this simple and innovative design to succeed.
